FAQs About Dr. Kim’s Therapy Practice
Some frequently asked questions about Dr. Kim’s therapy practice are displayed below in tab format. If you can’t find the answer to your question and need some extra help, feel free to reach out to Dr. Kim directly by clicking here.
1. Do you accept insurance?
Dr. Kim does not accept any insurances. By not accepting insurance, she’s able to provide a better level of care where her treatment decisions are not dictated by the insurance company, but rather for the patient’s best interest.
If you have out of network benefits with your insurance she will provide you with an invoice or super bill with all the codes that can be submitted for reimbursement. Please check with your insurance plan to determine your coverage.
2. What is your treatment approach?
Dr. Kim will explore with you and your child the full history and background of what is bringing you into seeking treatment at this point. It will include all relevant medical, psychiatric, behavioral, educational, and family history. She will then recommend the appropriate treatment based on the evaluation, be it medication, therapy, or most often than not, both.
At times, further testing and evaluation may be necessary before the best therapeutic modalities can be recommended.
Dr. Kim will listen to your concerns, and will work with you to come up with the best approach in finding the right balance of different treatment options.
3. What should I expect during initial evaluation process?
Once you call or email Dr. Kim requesting an initial appointment, you’ll be getting a free 10 – 15 minute consultation to see if it is a right fit for you.
Adult initial evaluation sessions are one hour long.
Child initial evaluations are 90 minutes, where Dr. Kim will meet with your child individually first, if they are 10 years of age or up, for 30 to 45 minutes. Then, she’ll meet with parents for 15 – 30 minutes to review history and concerns. We will then all gather together for a summary of impressions and recommendations.
If the child is younger than 10, and/or unable to separate from parents, we will start with everyone until the child becomes comfortable enough to be seen individually as long as he/she can tolerate.
4. How about follow up appointments?
Follow-up sessions are typically 45 minutes long.
Family sessions can be one hour.
If you have an existing therapist, and would like to utilize medication management services only, they are 25 minutes long.
During the initial starting and titrating process, you may be required to have more frequent visits until stabilization.
Follow-up visits are a minimum of once every three months until you are ready to taper down and get off medication.
5. What are your fees and payment schedule?
Fees will be discussed at your initial phone consultation.
Payments are expected at the time of each visit.
The full fee is charged for missed appointments or cancellations for initial evaluations with less than three business days notice, and for follow up visits with one business day notice, unless in the event of an emergency or inclement weather.
